This embroidered kaya fabric dishcloth is carefully woven in Nara Prefecture, the only remaining production area of traditional mosquito net fabric in Japan, and finished with delicate embroidery in Wakayama. Originally inspired by workers who stitched together leftover mosquito net fabric to avoid waste, kaya cloth feels firm due to starch, but once rinsed with water or lukewarm water, it shrinks and becomes remarkably soft, fluffy, and flexible. Highly absorbent―about 1.3 times more absorbent than cotton―it dries quickly and is extremely durable. Perfect for wiping dishes, hands, countertops, or rinsing vegetables. As it softens over time, it can be reused as a cleaning cloth, making it a long-lasting and eco-friendly daily essential.
